British Values

At Thames Primary Academy,  our vision is for our pupils to understand the importance of respect and leave school fully  prepared for life in modern Britain. Through our curriculum offer we aim to ensure that children become valuable and fully rounded members of society, who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background.

Through our curriculum, assemblies and wider enrichment opportunities we promote the basic British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs (see below for a definition of each value).

Democracy
Making decisions together: we have a say in what happens at school, through our School Council, Pupil Leadership Team and pupil voice opportunities.

Individual Liberty
Freedom for all: we make our own choices and understand the rewards for OR consequences of our own actions.

Rule of Law
Understanding that rules are important: we have fair rules at school and these are to help us to become good citizens and prepare us for life beyond school.

Mutual respect for and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith

Treat others as you want to be treated: we work together to help one another, we respect each others physical space, we listen to others and respect their opinions.

We enjoy learning about different faiths and cultures: we learn about different faiths, customs and religious practices. We understand how diversity makes us what we are today.
